A Safarini journey
Cultural Camel Adventure
Camels carry the camp. You walk. The route runs north through the Mathews Range and into the Ndotos, between Samburu settlements, with the people who have lived in this country for generations.
This is the journey that best explains why Safarini exists. There are no vehicles for most of it and no fixed camp — the animals carry tents, food and water, and the day ends wherever the walking ends. The Samburu families who travel with us are not guides hired for the week; they are people we have worked alongside for more than a decade, in the country their families have always moved through.

The shape of it
Arrive and acclimatise
A night on a private conservancy north of Mount Kenya to shake off the flight, meet the team and get the pace of the place.
Into the forest
Indigenous cycad forest and elephant paths on the flanks of the range, with the camels bringing camp up behind you.
Sky islands
Granite domes rising out of the desert. Days without seeing another traveller, and some of the clearest night skies in Africa.
The lugga
The sand river that gives the region its water and its name — and the Milgis Trust, one of the grassroots organisations the Safarini Foundation supports.
Out to the reserve
A final stretch of classic wildlife country before the flight south.
The other journeys

Great Rift Valley Discovery
A sequence of Rift Valley ecosystems — soda lakes and flamingos, escarpment, conservancy walking country and star beds above a wildlife corridor.
